Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan (1916-2004) was the eldest son and spiritual successor to Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan. Pir Vilayat studied psychology and philosophy at Paris University and did postgraduate work at Oxford University. He also studied music at L’Ecole Normale de Musiqe in Paris. Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan was an internationally known master of meditation. He was also very much interested in science, and he incorporated recent developments in physics and biology into his teaching.
